COCOONS
Mitumba; huge second hand clothing markets in (Tanzania) Africa. We often see used clothing as something useless, it has no value for us. Hence the reason why we get rid of it by for example giving it away for charity.
In different places in Africa, however, they see it as something very nice and wearable. As soon as they pull the used clothing out of the bales, it gets a new life; just like a cocoon.
To show the world that used clothing can not be seen as "trash" at all, I presented this fashion show full of used items. This way used clothing becomes a brand and is almost haute couture-like and gets send right to Africa after the show. Next to that the hangtags give information about the item; what is the story behind it? Who wore it? Etc. The whole process becomes less anonymous. Right now we have no idea where our clothes go to, and they don't know where they came from.
