SPARE CHANGE

It started with my personal money problem; I never spend spare change. It just ends up in a little bucket. Do different sub-cultures in Holland have a specific way of spending their money? And (how) do they use their spare change? Research on spending patterns was needed to get an answer.

Eventually people seemed to have different reasons for (not) using their spare change. In order to bring all the needs of these groups together, as well as bringing in the thrill and risk of getting something more (or maybe less), I turned machines in public spaces in to “Spare Change-machines”.

One will use it in order to help others, others will simply use it because they need money or are greedy to get more. A few samples for possible machines were made; in school (next to the soda-machine), next to an ATM-machine, at the parking lot and at the gas station.

All this research and ideas have been put together in a year report as if “Spare Change” was a company/bank. This contains the regular type of photos/ diagrams you would expect there to be but all with a slightly humorous twist.
